Careful what you wish for!!! After all the warm temperatures and rain we are now experiencing extreme cold again. These temperatures have caused the hill to close for night skiing on January 21st (Tuesday). Please check back with the Snow Phone throughout the week to see when the hill will re-open.
In other news… MMSC Alpine Race teams competed at Alice Ski Club in Pembroke last Sunday and came away very successful! The Nancy Greene team won first place beating out Petawawa Ski Club and Pembroke Ski Club. The Paterson racers also had a successful race but our team lacks any girls this year!! The boys Ben Osborne and Logan Nelson came away with some hardware however.
This weeks race is at Mount Martin on Sunday for a start time of 10:00am. Hopefully it will warm up a little by then!! Come out and support the team on home hill and make the other clubs feel welcome.
See you out there… Stay warm!
The hill has now re-opened for regular hours as of Thursday January 16th. Lessons will resume as well on Friday night and Saturday. The race team will practice Saturday afternoon at 1:30pm. The MMSC race team is scheduled to race Sunday at Alice in Pembroke. Information will be provided to parents and racers after practice on Saturday afternoon.
See everyone out there!
The warmer temperatures are not helping and the hill remains closed. Check the snow phone Thursday to see about openings if/when the temperatures drop.
Thanks for your patience!
Icy and dangerous conditions continue today and the hill will remain CLOSED. Check back with the Snow Phone throughout the week and on the website to see when the hill will reopen. Cooler temperatures with the absence of rain will allow Ken to groom the hill and break up the layer of ice that has formed. Thanks to all for your understanding as we work to get the hill back into shape after such a great start to the season. Racing and Lessons will be made up and instructors/coaches will be in touch.
Thanks again and we look forward to seeing everyone out again soon!
Reminder: Just a reminder that the Regular Hill Hours now include a Thursday afternoon opening from 3pm – 5pm (when conditions allow). This is a great opportunity for adults or parents with young children to enjoy the hill when it’s not crowded with the younger, more enthusiastic crowd in the evenings and weekends. Keep it in mind and contact Lynn Stock for more info.
Unfortunately the rain has found us at Mount Martin and the hill has been closed today due to icy conditions. Hopefully one day of rain doesn’t do too much damage as we were off to a great start!! All lessons and race practice will be postponed due to unsafe conditions and rescheduled. If the hill is open tomorrow (Sunday) the race team will practice at 2pm but an email will be sent out for confirmation. Check the Snow Phone tomorrow to see if the hill will re-open and I will try to update the website before 1pm.
Enjoy the relaxing rainy day and stay safe in the icy conditions!
The hill has been open for some time now thanks to the cold weather and lots of snow! Now it’s time to improve our technique with the lessons program starting this Saturday January 11th for our members. Those enrolled in lessons should have received a phone call from an instructor as to the time of the lesson. If you are not registered for lessons but would like to be you can certainly still schedule something with one of our instructors. See Jill at the chalet or contact the Fitzpatricks for more info.
The MMSC Nancy Greene and Paterson race program begins for another season starting Saturday January 11th at 1:30pm as well. Last year our team of young racers did exceptionally well and improvements were made by all. This year has started off well with lots of new kids registered and good snow to start off with. An email will be circulating to those who have been registered this week with information for racers and the race dates below. If you are interested but have not registered contact Sean Patterson or Heather Tumber or just come out Saturday! The following races have been booked so far with the UOVSZ:
- January 19th at Alice Ski Hill in Pembroke
- January 26th at Mount Martin in Deep River
- January 31st (friday night) at Mount Molson in Petawawa
- Finals TBA at Madawaska in Barry’s Bay for early February
Keep an eye on the weather this Saturday and remember to call the Snow Phone! Conditions may deteriorate with the warm temperatures and expected rain. If the hill needs to close to preserve the snow at the bottom of the hill it will be on the Snow Phone in the morning (and probably here on the website too!). Lessons will be made up later in the season!
Snow Dance Everyone!!
The cold temperatures and snow over the past weekend have enabled the hill to open for the season… one of the earliest openings in a while! Just in time for the holidays and the kids out of school we will be offering Regular Hours over the weekend and a Holiday Schedule starting Monday of next week. The detailed hours can be found on the Hours and Rates page. A pass for the entire holiday schedule can be purchased at the chalet for $50.

These are only the potential hours if the weather and conditions cooperate!
