Racing

Mount Martin Ski Club (MMSC) offers an exciting and challenging ski racing program for children 6 to 16. The program includes 1.5 hrs of instruction on Saturdays from 2:00 – 3:30 PM and several races typically held on Sunday mornings. MMSC is a member of the Upper Ottawa Valley Ski Zone (UOVSZ) which offers opportunities for friendly competition within the Valley.

MMSC has also offered Adult Racing for those 19+ on weekday evenings for those club members looking to take their skills to a new level.

Katie will be completing her CSCF certification this season and she will be supported by Heather Tumber, Mark Chapman and other parent and community volunteers.

A tentative schedule will be worked out for MMSC in coordination with the Petawawa Ski and Snowboard Club. Our season starts with training beginning January 2020 (training begins on the same day as MMSC regular ski lessons, typically the second weekend in January, but snow dependent). The first race will be on Sunday later in the month! As part of the schedule we work to include an optional away training and family ski day at Antoine as well as the opportunity to race at a larger hill – Pakenham.

The Upper Ottawa Valley Ski Zone (UOVSZ) traditionally had two programs:
(1) Nancy Greene League – a fun team racing activity for young skiers up to age 12
(2) Patterson (Senior) Racing series – individual and team competition for skiers age 12 to 16. As the number of local clubs has dwindled over the past few years to only MMSC and Petawawa, MMSC has revamped their program to include more flexibility in the race and training format. Saturday lessons continue to emphasize racing technique as well as basic skills instruction. MMSC hosted races have transitioned to providing times to all children and often including three runs through the course (instead of the traditional two) allowing an opportunity to tweak technique and look for improvement between runs. Ribbons/medals are awarded for the most improved time and fastest male and female on the hill.

To participate in the racing program the UOVSZ waiver form must be submitted before the first race. This form is distributed to racers at the start of the season.

Poles and hard sided helmets are mandatory. If you have any questions please reach out to Katie Hogue for more information.

MMSC Racing (ages 6 – 16) ~ $100.00

Adult Racing (ages 19+) ~ please contact Katie so that we can gauge interest

Mount Martin Ski Club holds local club championship races for skiing and snowboarding at the end of the season for all members! Trophies and medals are awarded for boys and girls up to age 16 and to the Masters. This is a great way to try out racing and see if it’s for you and your family. Racing on the MMSC team is an excellent way to improve technique and visit some of the other community hills in the Ottawa Valley for a little variety.
